Primus Global Services, Inc. (CitiGroup, NYSE: C)
Irving, TX
Business Intelligence Consultant

Lead consultant hired to implement a Crystal Enterprise 9 High Availability Production and Disaster Recovery (Continuity of Business - COB) Environment.
  • Acquired two new servers that were built identical to accommodate the necessary requirements to ensure a high availability production/COB environment.
  • Servers used identical service credentials, either local or domain accounts. Since these servers used email (SMTP), accessed unmanaged disk space, and used a data source to connect to Microsoft Access or Excel, a domain account was used. All data sources on both servers were named the same and used the same user accounts with read only access. The file repository server (FRS) was located in the same file structure location on both servers. These locations are literal locations; so changing from C:\ to D:\ would result in the loss of links to historical instances stored in the web application (eProtfilio). Both servers had SQL Server 2000 installed and client tools were available to developers. Also, Crystal Reports 9 was installed on both servers for trouble shooting purposes. Finally, all custom COM objects and CSP code were maintained identically on both servers.
  • After these new servers were built, configured to the specifications described above, and toughly tested, these new servers replaced the current server in production. The data in the current production database was backed up and restored to the new servers. Also, the historical reports stored in the FRS were achieved for future reference.
  • This plan assured that current reports were not lost, current production and auditing reporting continued uninterrupted, and that there was a minimal business user impact.
  • Replication of the database data and files stored in the FRS, was accomplished using SQL Server 2000. DTS packages and jobs were created in order to maintain and manage replication effectively.
